About App Critic Weekly

Who publishes App Critic Weekly, why it exists and what our stars mean.

App Critic Weekly is a magazine of criticism for apps and virtual-reality games. We review language apps, meditation apps and Meta Quest games the way an arts section reviews a play or a novel: with an argument, a point of view and a verdict at the end.

Who publishes us

App Critic Weekly launched in 2026. There was never a print edition, and we are not older than that. The magazine is published by the same company that also develops or publishes several of the products we write about: LingFit, MindIsland, Laser Thief, Haunted: Are You Alone?, Tank Avenger – Mixed Reality, Sozo – Tower Defense. Who that company is, and how to reach it, is set out in our legal notice.

That is a conflict of interest, and we would rather say so plainly than hope you don’t notice. Pieces about these products are publisher content, not independent criticism. We still try to write about them as honestly as we write about anyone else’s work, flaws included. Read our full disclaimer.

What we believe

  • Apps and games are made things. They have intentions, craft and failures, and they deserve to be argued about in decent prose.
  • An opinion needs reasons. Every review ends with The Verdict, and every verdict should be traceable to something we actually describe in the piece.
  • Fair to the competition. We review and recommend work from other developers too, and we describe it accurately.

What our stars mean

Where a piece carries stars (out of five), they are the opinion of App Critic Weekly as a publication, nothing more. We do not publish reader ratings, user reviews, testimonials or invented quotes, and our bylines are the editorial team, not imaginary critics.

Corrections and letters

If we have got a fact wrong, write to [email protected]. We will correct it and note the revision. Letters disagreeing with a verdict are read with pleasure, though not always with agreement.
